چکیده
Glass capillaries with diameters of 1.5 mm were used. The tips of the capillaries were sharpened by a flaming-brown micropipette puller (Model P-1000, Sutter Instrument, USA) to obtain needle-shape capillaries. Anhydrous alcohol (99.5%) and anhydrous toluene (99.9%) were purchased from Shimakyus Pure Chemical (Osaka, Japan) and J. T. Baker (Phillipsburg, NJ, USA). MTS (Methyltrichlorosilane, CH3SiCl3, 99% purity, catalogue number: M85301) was purchased from Sigma-Aldrich, USA.

Effect of contact angle hysteresis on thermocapillary droplet actuation
Open microfluidic devices based on actuation techniques such as electrowetting, dielectrophoresis, or thermocapillary stresses require controlled motion of small liquid droplets on the surface of glass or silicon substrates. In this article we explore the physical mechanisms affecting thermocapillary migration of droplets generated by surface temperature gradients on the supporting substrate. U...
متن کاملModeling Of Heat Transfer And Solidification Of Droplet/Substrate In Microcasting SDM Process
Microcasting Shape-Deposition-Manufacturing is an approach to Solid-Freeform-Fabrication (SFF) process which is a novel method for rapid automated manufacturing of near-net-shape multi-material parts with complex geometries. By this method, objects are made by sequentially depositing molten metal droplets on a substrate and shaping by a CNC tool, layer by layer. Important issues are concerned w...
متن کاملSimulating droplet motion on virtual leaf surfaces
A curvilinear thin film model is used to simulate the motion of droplets on a virtual leaf surface, with a view to better understand the retention of agricultural sprays on plants. The governing model, adapted from Roy et al. (2002 J. Fluid Mech. 454, 235-261 (doi:10.1017/S0022112001007133)) with the addition of a disjoining pressure term, describes the gravity- and curvature-driven flow of a s...
متن کاملLight-driven motion of liquids on a photoresponsive surface
The macroscopic motion of liquids on a flat solid surface was manipulated reversibly by photoirradiation of a photoisomerizable monolayer covering the surface. When a liquid droplet several millimeters in diameter was placed on a substrate surface modified with a calix[4]resorcinarene derivative having photochromic azobenzene units, asymmetrical photoirradiation caused a gradient in surface fre...
متن کاملPersistent droplet motion in liquid-liquid dewetting.
When a nonvolatile liquid film dewets from a partly compatible liquid substrate, the advancing dewetting front leaves behind droplets formed through a Rayleigh instability mechanism at its rim. We have found that these droplets continue to move in the direction of the dewetting front for extended periods (of order one day) with an initial droplet velocity varying linearly with the droplet size,...
